What: Training workshop for Journalists in Kilifi on reporting violence against women and girls (VAWG)

When: 1st - 2nd July 2016

Where: Kilifi County

 

African Woman and Child (AWC) Feature Service is currently implementing the Jamii Thabiti programme that focuses on three forms of violence: Violence against Women and Girls; Criminal Violence, and Inter-Communal Violence. Under this programme, AWC Feature Service is focusing on Violence against Women and Girls (VAWG). In this regard, the organization is working with state and non-state actors to end this form of violence.

One of the strategic partners for this programme is the Media. In this regard, AWC is holding a one and a half day workshop for media practitioners in Kilifi county.

The objectives of the workshop are:

  • To increase understanding of Journalists on definition, forms and presentation of violence against women and girls
  • To enhance the knowledge and skills of Journalists on legal and policy responses to violence against women and girls
  • To discuss the role of Journalists in increasing the County’s attention to violence against women and girls in laws and ethical issues .

What: Workshop on Communication And Media Skills capacity building workshop for women leaders in Kisumu  County 

When: 1st to 2nd July, 2016

Where: Kisumu 

 

African Woman and Child Feature Service (AWCFS) is holding a workshop to build the capacities of women leaders in Kisumu County on communication and  media  skills.

The purpose of the workshop is to expose women leaders to communication and media techniques and tools for effective engagement in advancing gender equality and empowerment. The training will also explore the use of both conventional and social media to raise their political and leadership profiles.

It is hoped that after the workshop, participants will be able to use the gained communication and media skills to showcase their leadership capabilities, enhance their visibility and that of issues affecting women as well as advocate for their rights as the country moves closer to the General Election in 2017.

Meeting with radio journalists in Kisumu

 AWC will be meeting  with radio journalists from community and vernacular stations in Kisumu on 10th June 2016. 

The meeting will be about monitoring political leadership, democracy and governance issues in their content and structure using a gender sensitive approach.
